The Allure of Spring at Combermere Abbey

Combermere Abbey’s wild beauty, historic magnificence and exclusive use offering make it probably the most enchanting wedding venue in the North of England.

It is unique, and nature offers an ever-changing landscape, making it different with each passing season.......during spring its beauty is perhaps at its most alluring. A rich promise of things yet to come, especially as the gardens feature the world’s only fruit tree maze, a spectacular labyrinth of espaliered fruit branches, including apples, pears and currants, their blossom revealing tiny, yet exquisitely fragrant, star-like flowers. The restored Victorian Glasshouse sits right in the heart of the maze, surrounded by concentric walled gardens, all blooming with delicate flowers, fresh verdant leaves and bright spring bulbs.

An incredible sight to behold in Combermere’s spring season is that of the ancient woodlands, a bright blue carpet of native bluebells, and a most magical backdrop for intimate photos.

Combermere is a special place, awash with the peaceful sounds of nature and bathed in natural beauty. The relative constancy of its 900 year old presence ensures that the flora and fauna which inhabit the estate have remained protected and largely undisturbed, helping to preserve its rare and special beauty.

Most weddings take place in ‘The Glasshouse’, a fan-shaped glass construction with its origins in the nineteenth century. Its neutral décor and 180 degree views of the maze and the walled gardens beyond ensure a perfect, yet individual backdrop to each and every wedding day. Each wedding here enjoys exclusive use of the venue.

Its accommodation includes ten stylish holiday cottages in the grounds of the Abbey, mainly within the old stables and courtyard area, plus a magnificent bridal suite, ‘The Salamanca’, housed in the Abbey’s double award-winning, recently restored North Wing, which enjoys extensive views over the mere where wild geese, ducks and swans can be seen.
