Techie Weddings and the Future…

Remember when having a dedicated website was the height of wedding sophistication? The idea of having your own space on the web was considered a real luxury. Those days are long gone and the surge in tech friendly ceremonies and receptions has reached an all-time high.

More and more couples are opting for some digital element in their big day. They key is to ensure any tech is adding something to the wedding and is helping people come together in real life, after all you don’t want your tech to be so immersive that people are distracted from the main event!

Whether you’re a bona fide tech-whizz or a complete technophobe looking to try something new, here are a few techie trends to consider adding to your big day.

Social media is a great way for couples and guests to instantly share their special day with family and friends from across the globe, however its worth considering a basic plan of action to ensure those pictures of uncle David’s questionable dance moves don’t end up splashed all over Facebook! It’s a good idea to elect a social media manager of honour to oversee the process while you enjoy yourselves. Pick a friend with an artistic eye and an understanding of the social media theme you want to convey.

It’s also worth creating a dedicated hashtag or handle which your guests can use to interact with you online, and having your social guru retweet any posts to create a real sense of community in the real and virtual worlds. Be sure to sign post the hashtag or handle in a conspicuous location and for an added element of fun why not set a small challenge…best selfie with the bride and groom anyone?

Drones for photos, ring bearers etc

When it comes to weddings, there are a few classic shots that any photographer worth their salt will consider essential. Walking down the aisle, the look on a couples face when they first see each other, the first dance. But if you’re looking for a slightly different angle, a drone is a great way to change up your perspective. Stunning aerial photography will make for a refreshing change and is great for highlighting wedding locations of spectacular beauty. Finish off with an aerial shot of the entire wedding throwing confetti for a truly special picture that works perfectly on the front of those all-important thank you cards!

QR Codes

A simple but effective touch, QR codes unlock a world of possibilities at weddings. For those of you who are wondering what QR codes are, they’re similar to a standard barcode but can be scanned by mobile phones to direct to webpages, online market places and social media feeds. This is a great way of adding a digital element to a real world item. A popular trend is having a QR code placed in prime position at the entrance to your reception which links guests to a virtual wedding guestbook where they can leave comments and pictures.

Fit bit heart rate monitors – heartrate graph of your day

You have your photographs, your favours and your wedding gifts, but what about a memento of not only your wedding day, but your wedding emotions? Arguably the most emotional moment of a person’s life, wearable tech is now allowing couples to capture information on the way you were feeling at different points in your wedding day. Devices like the FitBit can be used to monitor heart rates at different time points to form a visual representation of your wedding emotions. Imagine being able to pinpoint your heartbeat at the exact moment you walk down the aisle or see the first of your wedding photos. You can even have the resulting graph turned into a painting or engraved onto jewellery, it doesn’t get much more romantic than that!
