Keep your Summer Scent Alive this autumn

As autumn approaches, our wardrobes have gone from summer dresses to thick jumpers almost overnight. With colder days and darker nights comes the desire to stay in, and watch TV while the wind is blowing outside. Gone are long, hot summer evenings, taking with them our energy and joie de vivre.

However, you can combat the winter blues and re-live your summer memories with one simple beauty essential – your fragrance. Here, industry leading experts Fragrance & Beauty, explain the key tricks to keeping your summer scent alive during the new season.

Fragrance & Beauty say: “Fragrance is such a powerful mood enhancer and it can lift our spirits immediately. As summer fades we often tend to move away from our fruity and floral summer fragrances, towards the warmer oriental tones. People don’t realise they can transform their fragrance and use it in a different way to take it

through the winter.

If you would like your summer fragrance to last longer, the first step is too prep your skin thoroughly every day. To ensure the fragrance molecules saturate into the skin, it’s essential to use a good body oil or moisturiser. Also remember that your shower routine plays a huge part in the process. Heavily scented shower gels will stick to the skin and create an aroma that will last all day. If you want your favorite fragrance to really create an impact, keep it simple and fragrance free.

Our top fragrance pick is Monsoon Rose Gold (100ml, £35) which sends you straight back to the lovely hot summer evenings in the Mediterranean. It is a very feminine and romantic fragrance; full of lemon, rose and jasmine which makes you re-live your beautiful summer memories immediately.

The traditional way people tend to distribute their fragrance to spray onto pulse points – such as neck, elbows and wrists. However, my top insider trick is to spray the inside of your arms and spritz a scent mist into your hair. This will create a bigger statement, and will also ensure the scent lingers for longer as these warmer areas of your body will help diffuse the fragrance throughout the day.

We would also suggest spraying the fragrance into the air and walking slowly through the mist. By doing that, the spray will distribute the scent evenly across your body and leave you with a hint of fragrance throughout the day.

If your summer scent feels a little too light for autumn nights, layer it with a scent with a headier base note. The key to this approach is to apply the heavier fragrance first. To keep the summer fragrance at the forefront, we suggest one spritz of the autumn scent and two sprays of your lighter smell.

Finally, have you ever wondered why your fragrance smells so different when your friend borrows it? It’s all down to pheromones which interact differently person to person. When choosing the perfect base fragrance, spray and wait and hour to let it settle. This will give you a true reflection of how the scent will sit on your skin. We recommend a fragrance with spicy base notes of cardamom, nutmeg or cinnamon.
