Caer Rhun Hall - exterior

Our editor Victoria Galligan headed off to Wales for a fairytale weekend where guests are treated like royalty…

North Lakes Hotel and Spa wedding venue - review

North Lakes Hotel wedding venue - the dining room

Vows & Venues’ Wendy Allen-Smith took a trip to Penrith in Cumbria and found the perfect wedding venue which can be combined with a relaxing break…

The North Lakes Hotel and Spa is unbelievably easy to find, even for me, and without a satnav. It is a great location for guests travelling from north or south of the hotel. We stayed for a short overnight spa break, to unwind and relax in lovely surroundings which was not too far off the beaten track and within easy reach of the Lake District.

Historic Nanteos Mansion is a wedding venue with a past - Review

Historic Nanteos Mansion wedding venue - the music room filled with guests

Our editor Victoria Galligan checks into a modernised wedding venue with plenty of history behind it…

Nestled in the Welsh countryside, a stone’s throw from the seaside town of Aberystwyth, lies a Georgian manor house with a history as rich as its owners The Powells were in the 1700s.

Thomas Powell and his descendants were Welsh Conservative politicians and military men, and upon his father’s death in 1730 he rebuilt the mansion to the glorious standard it maintains today – although the family had their ups and downs over the years, not least when Thomas died of an “apoplectic fit” on a London street in 1752. The mansion passed from family ownership in 1962 and has been operating as a luxury hotel since 2004.

A guide to summer wedding photography - bride smelling bouquet

A venue bathed in sunshine, drinks on the terrace, garden parties and dining al fresco… summer weddings can be picture perfect. Yet the squinty eyes, red faces and difficult light conditions could mean your wedding photos are less so. Jo Critchley-Saville from Mosborough Hall Hotel, a restored 12th Century Manor House just outside Sheffield, shares this advice on ensuring your summer wedding snaps shine (whatever the weather).

Olivia Northside Cottages owner

LUXURY Northumberland wedding venue Northside Farm has shed light on its second phase investment plans into expanding its accommodation offering.

Northside Farm in Horsley has injected an additional £50,000 of self-raised funds to build four whimsical ‘tiny cottages’ complete with their own private outdoor seating area and fire pit by the paddocks within the existing glamping site which currently boasts ten timber wigwams with amenities.

Intimate ceremonies at The Bridge Prestbury: review

The Bridge Prestbury

If you’re planning a smaller ceremony or vow renewal, this quaint Cheshire venue is a great choice. Victoria Galligan visited The Bridge Prestbury and found the 16th-century venue may have changed over the years, but its tradition of offering excellent service and quality ingredients is far from outdated…

Couples planning an intimate ceremony with a carefully selected guest list will love The Bridge in Prestbury. Situated in the centre of the charmingly antiquated village which is renowned for its famous inhabitants, you can expect to see the likes of sporting favourites Andrew Flintoff or Wayne Rooney running their weekend errands in this delightful part of the country.

Cheshire wedding venue The Courthouse, Knutsford: review

The Courthouse wedding venue in Knusford, Cheshire - restaurant

All rise for the Courthouse – a converted public building in Knutsford which is as unique as it is charming. Our editor Victoria Galligan stayed at the wedding venue and did not feel “guilty” about indulging in a four-course feast. Read her review here…

It’s hard to believe when sitting in the restaurant at The Courthouse that as recently as 2010, the judge was banging the gavel and the defendants were being grilled in the dock. The court lay empty until Flat Cap Hotels restored it and it was relaunched as a venue in summer 2017. Thanks to a sensitively planned refurb, the original fixtures and fittings you’d expect to see in a courtroom are still there and give you the feeling you’re right in the middle of a courtroom drama.
