Top tips for getting the perfect wedding hair

Celebrity Hair Stylist Phil Smith, Creator of award winning haircare brand Phil Smith BE GORGEOUS, gives us his top tips for getting perfect wedding hair.day.

Grow your hair

Clients usually start growing their hair from the day they get engaged as they know that a longer hair style means their hairstylist has more to work with on their big day. We always find that as soon as they return from their honeymoon, the first thing they do on their return is book an appointment to cut it all off again!. I also advise clients not to colour their hair less than two weeks before their big day. This way it has time to settle and get in great condition for all the pictures

Keep your hair nourished

perfect wedding hairInvest in a good conditioner and treatment like the Phil Smith BE GORGEOUS HELLO MOISTURE Nourishing Repair Conditioner (£3.50). In the shower after shampooing or just a rinse, towel dry your hair so it’s not saturated with water. This then enables your hair to absorb the conditioner or treatment in a more efficient way. Once a week, rinse your hair, towel dry then use the Phil Smith BE GORGEOUS HELLO MOISTURE Intensive Conditioning Treatment (£3.50) on through mid-lengths and ends. It’s best to sleep with this on and then rinse out in the morning so your hair is highly nourished! You could even treat yourself and pop into the salon every fortnight for a conditioning treatment. Olaplex and L’Oreal Smartbond standalone treatments are perfect for keeping your hair in good condition as they are highly intensive and nutritious. Or, if you’re getting your hair coloured, ask for these to be put into colour. When colouring your hair, the colour breaks down the bonds in your hair which is what can damage your hair. However, the ingredients within these treatments repairs the bonds with your hair, leaving it feeling amazing, even after your hair colour.

Combing and brushing

For after washing your hair and styling, always comb your hair when wet! Rather than using a brush, use a wide tooth comb so you aren’t pulling your hair too much. Start from the bottom and work your way up.  When drying- use a low heat and keep dryer at a distance to prevent heat damage. If you don’t need to dry your hair then don’t! Invest in a good styling product and leave to dry naturally, like the new COCO LICOUS Coconut Water Texture Spray (£3.50 from Phil Smith BE GORGEOUS). If you can, stay away from heated electricals like Straighteners and tongs, as these will slowly dry out your hair and won’t be in good condition for your big day.

Eating to help your hair

Eating healthy nutritious foods are also good for keeping your hair in good condition. Eating meat and greens like kale and spinach will provide you with iron and protein. Salmon, walnuts, and avocados are sources of omega-3s, which help your hair stay shiny and healthy. If you wanted an extra boost, you could ask your local health food store and see what vitamins are best. This is a quick and easy way of getting goodness into your body and hair, making sure it’s in the best condition for your big day.
