One of the country's most magical wedding venues in Northumberland

Planning a special occasion next year or the year after?  Magical Alnwick Castle is one of the country’s most romantic and magical wedding venues.

With three enchanting venues to choose from here, endless wedding styles are possible and no two celebrations are ever the same. From a magnificent, traditional marriage in the Castle, or a fun, Harry Potter themed wedding complete with broomsticks, to an exquisite ceremony within the old, atmospheric Hulne Abbey, or an intimate celebration at Friars Well – the choice is yours.

All three of these idyllic wedding venues hold marriage licences and couples can mix their celebrations between each location if they wish. Why not arrange a ceremony in lovely Hulne Abbey, followed by a reception in the Guest Hall? Or get married in the Guest Hall, followed by a barbeque and dancing on the lawns at Friars Well?

The castle is one of the most magical wedding venues

The Castle itself presents a suitably splendid backdrop to a momentous occasion. The Castle banqueting hall, with its carved stone archways and beamed roof, offers magnificent surroundings for a marriage and can accommodate up to 200 guests for ceremonies and 160 for wedding breakfasts.

Hulne Abbey - available from March to September -  is an enchanting ruined abbey and lies on a hillside in Hulne Park, close to Alnwick.  Surrounded by medieval walls and founded in the 13th century as a Carmelite monastery, Hulne Abbey is a wonderfully secluded spot for your marriage and very atmospheric. There’s ample space for a marquee or rustic tipi for up to 500 here.

Friars Well is an exquisite, nine-bedroom private country house, with beautiful, lawned gardens and wonderful views, also located in Hulne Park near Alnwick. It’s a very special, wedding venue for smaller ceremonies, although the extensive, lawned gardens can accommodate barbeques and celebrations for up to 160 people.

Fiona Wealleans, Events Manager says: “Everyone wishes their wedding to be the most perfect day of their life and I’m here to make sure that happens! We can offer a Guest variety of large or small weddings for everyone – and all in the most wonderful surroundings.  From a small intimate ceremony overlooking the beautiful, unspoilt Northumberland countryside at Friars Well, to a spellbinding service at Hulne Abbey or dancing till dawn in the Guest Hall. Whatever you want – even if its broomstick training for your guests - we will wave our Alnwick Castle magic wands and do our best to arrange it for you!”
