With Halloween just round the corner, Jennifer Panton, wedding and special events sales manager at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester, has put together a list of ten gorgeous and unusual ideas for anyone planning a wedding on All Hallows Eve.
Black taffeta is just as stunning as a traditional white dress.
Although a white dress can look perfectly in keeping with the aesthetic of a Halloween wedding, don’t feel bound by tradition when choosing the colour of your gown.
Think gothic and vintage for Halloween wedding invitations.
Ouija board invitations, gothic script, weathered parchment-style invites and simple white lettering on black card are all popular choices for Halloween weddings.
Keep your bouquet and accessories on-theme.
Black or dark purple/red blooms can look seriously effective as a Halloween bridal bouquet, but feel free to go for bright colours or autumnal sprays too. If you’re wearing a pale-coloured dress, consider accenting it with black trimmings or black lace gloves. A black net veil is another way to add a spooky twist to your wedding attire.
Let bridesmaids and groomsmen in on the Halloween theme.
A Halloween wedding is unusual by its very definition, so don’t feel that you have to dress your bridesmaids in pastels and your groomsmen in standard suits (unless that’s what you really want). Bridesmaids can look incredible in fairy-tale inspired attire, for example in black and white striped tights and ruby slippers a la The Wizard of Oz, or in soft orange gowns to contrast with your black wedding dress. If you choose to wear white, why not have your bridesmaids in black or deep burgundy?
No Halloween wedding is complete without pumpkins!
They can be used as table decorations, as lanterns that line the aisle, or as name card holders. How about choosing pumpkins carved with your names and faces, or with romantic slogans, or just covered in lace, crystals, or white paint?
Let your imagination run wild when it comes to spooky table décor ideas.
You can dress tables in rich red or burgundy, or go with white table cloths sashed in pumpkin orange. Table centrepieces can be as unorthodox as you wish. Opt for a display of dark bouquets of dried flowers, skull ornaments painted black and coated in glitter, or creepy black candelabras. Coasters and napkins can be decorated with pumpkin, spider web or bat designs, and black china and candles are also a popular choice.
Offer trick or treating for young guests.
Don’t let the children in attendance miss out on their chance to go trick or treating! Provide them with sweet treats to fill a Halloween bucket during the evening.
Serve Halloween cocktails and traditional dishes with an autumnal twist.
The catering at a Halloween wedding doesn’t have to appear ‘scary’ (or plain unappetising). Consider creating a menu filled with seasonal ingredients and present it in interesting ways, for example having a pumpkin risotto served in a tiny baby pumpkin! There are plenty of incredible recipes for stormy, dark cocktails online, and they can be sipped through a black liquorice straw.
Provide seriously spooky entertainment!
Whether you book a live band in fancy dress, their faces painted Day of the Dead-style, playing classic ghoulish hits like ‘Monster Mash’, or take your guests on a haunted house tour, complete with ghost stories and guttering candles, there’s a spooky way to keep everyone entertained. Providing a pot of sparklers for adults and supervised children to enjoy is also a great way to keep the party going.
Send your guests home with Halloween-themed party favours.
From tiny bottles of liquor encased in little coffins to a miniature personalised pumpkin each, a Halloween wedding provides plenty of scope for unusual party favours. You could hand out glass bottles of sweet treats, shot glasses personalised with names and a spooky motif, soaps with autumnal scents, or individually named key rings shaped like bats or spiders.
Victoria Warehouse would make the ideal location for a Halloween wedding due to the bare brick, industrial aesthetic of our venue and the flexibility of our multiple hire spaces. We provide a bespoke wedding service and can be more avant garde than some traditional venues when it comes to design and decor.
