4 original ways to celebrate your wedding anniversary

Wedding anniversaries are very special occasions, where you look back on the biggest day of your life while celebrating the happy times that you’ve spent together since. However, like other events that come around on an annual basis, if you put a lot of effort into one particular year, the others can sometimes pale in comparison.

Thankfully, there are quite a few things you can do to rekindle the magic of a wedding anniversary and ensure it is an occasion that you can both really enjoy. To help you out, we’ve put together four of our favourite things to do on an anniversary that are both original and memorable. Read on to find out more.

Choose a completely unique gift

While it’s certainly nice to receive some flowers and chocolates from time to time, getting the same type of gift every year can get a bit repetitive. To break the cycle, consider investing in a gift that is both memorable and completely unique.

If you are musically inclined, why not have a go at composing a song for your loved one that is personal and heartfelt. You could perform it on your anniversary, or even go one step further and get it recorded so that you can enjoy it on a future occasion too.

Should you not have any musical skills, don’t despair. There are specialists like Bespoke Songs, who offer their services through Not on the High Street, and will write, record, and deliver an exclusive song based on the stories and information that you share with them. This way, you can both enjoy the gift of some very personal music even if you aren’t a musician.

Take your celebration interstellarring

From the constellation Lyra, representing the sad tale of Orpheus and Eurydice, to the star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet, there is something romantic about the cosmos that has fascinated people for thousands of years.

You can capture some of this magic on your anniversary by heading out to a remote location, away from the city lights, and enjoying an evening looking up at the night sky. Take a home-prepared picnic and some delicious wine or champagne along, and you will be able to celebrate uninterrupted in each other’s company.

Before you plan your magical evening, you could make the occasion even more special by dedicating a pair of stars to each other, something that can be done with this Name a Star kit from Bottled and Boxed. Not only will your dedications be officially registered, but you will receive an information pack, containing essential data and the location of your stars in the sky — perfect if you want to find them during your night out.

Re-visit your favourite trip away

During your time together, you might have taken a trip away that was particularly memorable —you may have even gotten engaged or married on a romantic getaway. A great idea for a special anniversary is to return to the destination of your holiday and re-visit many of the sights that brought you closer together in the first place.

If you choose to do this, there is a good chance that your plans will be jam-packed with things to do and see, as you take the time to return to some old locations, while taking in the new sights that have sprung up since your last visit. Use an app like TripIt to organise your busy itineraryand you will have access to a simple, streamlined source for all of your schedule, bookings, and flight details, among many other things. You can then relax and focus entirely on enjoying your time away.

Prepare a book of anniversary memories

If you have been together a long time, there’s a good chance that you’ve celebrated quite a few significant and unforgettable anniversaries. The great thing about this is that you can use some of these memories to prepare a special scrapbook that looks back at the amazing times that you’ve had commemorating your wedding day.

Putting together a scrapbook is a lot of fun, but can be a challenge if you want to make it a surprise, as there may be some items or stories that your partner has or can recall the best. Consider making it a collaborative task, where you can both work on the project and reminisce at the same time.

If you’ve never created a scrapbook before, there are some basics that you should read up on before you begin to make sure it will stand the test of time. This beginner’s guide from Scrapbooking Coach has all of the advice you need to get started, including a checklist of equipment and advice about choosing photos to add to the pages.

Consider using any one of these four ideas if you want to celebrate your anniversary in an original and meaningful way. Remember, there are enough ideas to last a few years here, so don’t try and plan them all at once!
