With just 15 days to go before the big day we catch up with bride to be Nichola after her Hen night in Edinburgh last week.
You've had a few days recovery time now so how was it?
Well recovery time was needed! I'm not just talking about the after effects of alcohol over indulgence either but I came back shattered. Not everything went according to plan but does it ever go completely smoothly on a Hen night!
So run us through the itinerary
The first hitch came when we arrived en masse at the train station to find our train to Edinburgh delayed and then cancelled. We had a two hour wait for the next one so what else could we do but head to the nearest bar and have a wee drink, purely to kill some time of course.....
Of course. And then?
We arrived safely and as you know, I had no idea what had been planned but sixteen of us had been booked into 3 apartments, all great fun of course but there were so many steps leading up to the apartments it felt like an obstacle course! Sixteen women dragging luggage up several flights of stairs after a long train journey, well, what can I say, we certainly needed a drink to recover from that!
Oh dear-I sense a pattern emerging here...
Yes...well we settled in and the apartments were really lovely, most of us gathered together in one and played some games, there were blindfolds involved and a Mr and Mrs style quiz. One of the party had asked my intended (Jonny) a series of questions and my answers had to match-one was Manchester City or Nichola.......I was glad to hear that he hadn't taken too long answering that one and that he said the right thing! We had fun on Friday night but the bigger night was going to be Saturday so after the games we all retired to our beds.
What did Saturday bring?
A bizarre experience! My wonderful and helpful friends had arranged for us to attend an art class. I thought this was an imaginative and gentle activity for the daytime until we entered the room and realised it was ‘life drawing’ day.
You’ve probably guessed that the subject was a naked man….and we had to make a serious attempt to draw him without appearing shocked or embarrassed.
What thoughtful friends you have
Hmmm. To make matters worse they 'volunteered' me to pose with him for part of the class. Mortifying!
After all that we were back to the apartments where we got dressed and headed to the venue- the Jam house. After dinner we worked our way through the cocktail list and drinks included, Sleeping beauty, Blue lagoons and the obligatory 'sex on the beach'.
We had our own little balcony which was great because we could go off and mingle when we wanted but equally had our own space to dance and have fun. The music was quite retro so everyone had a favourite. We lasted until 2pm but had to stagger half the way back on foot because we just could not find a taxi. In the end we paid five times what we should have to get the rest of the way back to the apartments! On top of that we had all those lovely steps to climb again!
Was it what you hoped it would be?
It was! I had a really fun time, now it’s Jonny’s turn to let his hair down. I can use the time he’s away to get back on to last minute arrangements-my final dress fitting is coming up on 20th March.
We'll check back in soon to see how the nerves are holding up.
