A couple from South Yorkshire have tied the knot at The Daffodil Hotel & Spa in Grasmere almost a year to the day after finding out they had won a competition to hold their wedding at the 4-star luxury lakeside venue. The new Mr & Mrs Searles from Chapeltown in Sheffield won The Daffodil Hotel & Spa’s ‘Win a dream wedding competition’ ahead of almost 1,000 other couples in April 2014 and were married on Friday 17th April 2015.
The prize, worth more than £5,000 included full use of the hotel; a stylish red carpet drinks welcome, catering for up to 80 guests, bridal suite accommodation for the bride and groom, and full use of the hotel’s wedding planner and master of ceremonies.
AA Lake District photographer - Bowness Wedding Photography - also heard about the competition and provided the lucky couple with a full day complimentary wedding photography package, worth £849, which included a pre-wedding photo shoot and a signing frame for guests on the day. Speaking after the ceremony, Abi, 24, said: “It was just a fantastic day – everything about it was just perfect and, despite the Lakes reputation, we were so lucky with the weather! Right from the start when I was getting ready on the balcony with the beautiful view of the lake as backdrop, I knew it was going to be perfect. “Our family and friends who travelled up from Yorkshire loved the venue and Grasmere itself and were all saying how they can’t wait to come back again. The room looked lovely and the food throughout the day was fantastic. I wouldn’t change a thing about the day - the venue was perfect, the service was exceptional and everyone had a great time, as the dance floor was never empty! “My friends have got us a voucher to come back to the Daffodil next year for our first anniversary and we’re already looking forward to that!” In keeping with the venue, the couple fully embraced the daffodil angle – invitations were daffodil themed, centrepieces were daffodils and Abi’s bouquet was sprinkled with golden daffodils, roses and spring daises. Brian also entered into the spirit with a lemon tie.
