A Wedding Venue for All Seasons

Combermere Abbey is an exclusive and unquestionably romantic wedding venue on the Cheshire/Shropshire borders. One aspect which makes this venue unique is its harmony with nature, an ever-changing kaleidoscope of colour as the seasons come and go. Each season there is a different facet of this enchanting venue to enjoy.

With 180 degree views of the world’s only fruit tree maze and English walled gardens to be enjoyed from The Glasshouse, wedding ceremonies take place in the ‘outdoors-in’. Breathtaking views of this magical horticultural vist a are complemented by the neutral and elegant interior décor, enhanced by silk floral displays or your own floral displays.

During spring the estate enjoys a fresh vitality as buds unfurl, and pale blossoms dress the maze and carpet the lawns. By late spring, early summer, the native bluebell woods on the estate are sprinkled with fragrantstar- like flowers creating a sensational and vivid backdrop for couples’ wedding portraits.

Spring view

As the summer days lengthen, the borders deepen in colour with large, heady blooms scenting the air and The Rose Garden is heavenly.  At this peak of the year, brides can take advantage of several areas licensed for outdoor wedding ceremonies, such as The Arbour and the heart of the Fruit Tree Maze itself.

Come autumn, the maze is at its finest, laden with rosy-red apples, blushing pears, and shiny dark berries, with trees provide contrasting splashes of rich yellows, russets and burgundy within the surrounding woodlands.

Winter weddings

Winter brings its own pared-back beauty. In the Abbey’s formal grounds, the architecture of Gothic ironwork, frosted hedges and seed heads gleam in the pale light, and skeletal trees frame the gardens with their ghostly presence.

In the midwinter during January and February, or midweek during the other months, brides may choose the Glasshouse for an intimate wedding for up to 60 guests.

Couples marrying at Combermere have complimentary use of a 1927 Classic Crossley motor car for being driven within the estate, as well as for photography. A rather special touch, as the car was manufactured by the current owner’s Great Grandpa and perfectly complements the period setting. What a joy for couples to make a grand entrance and enjoy the scenery en route.
