Jim Shaw's wedding grooming tips for men

Jim Shaw is the owner of Essensuals Toni & Guy, Billericay. Here he offers men some top wedding grooming tips…

It’s important on your wedding day to look and feel your very best and this not only stands for the bride, but for the groom too. Men are becoming more fashion conscious and are now really into the latest grooming trends and taking care of themselves, Jim Shaw, Owner of Essensuals Toni & Guy Billericay, discusses his top grooming tips for men who want to look their best on their wedding day…

1. Like a bride books in for a consultation for her wedding day hair, a groom should do the exact same. This is extremely important for the groom to be able to talk to their hairdresser/barber about the style they would like to go for and if it’s achievable. The hairdresser/barber will also be able to advise if this will compliment your look on the day and if it’s a trend that is likely to go out of fashion that may not look good in your photos in years to come – always stick with a classic style that will never become dated!

2. Even after you leave the salon/barber it’s important to look after your hair up until the big day so that it looks it’s best, clean and in good condition. Speak to your hairdresser/barber who will be able to advise you on your hair type and what shampoo and conditioner will work best for you. E.g. if you will require moisturising/repairing products if you’re hair is very dry, or a clarifying shampoo and conditioner if your hair is very oily.

3. Another thing that’s very important to look after if you have any is your facial hair! Be sure to trim your beard (and nose hair!) weekly running up to the wedding day and  use a beard and moustache oil daily to keep your hair and skin hydrated and looking its best.

4. If you have no facial hair, a clean shave is a great treatment to book in prior to your wedding day. I always advise booking in for this a day before your wedding, which will provide you with a very clean, neat and sharp look. Hot towel shaves are one of my favourite clean shave methods and are perfect for the men who prefer a neatly groomed look to a messier, effortless look.

5. Lastly, always consider your hair products for your wedding day and the finish you want your hair to have. If you like a sleek, slicked back look, gels and serums are great for creating these styles. Alternatively, if you want a more effortless, texturised style, salt sprays work particularly well.  If you need more information on what products will work best for you and the look you want to achieve, speak to your hairdresser/barber about this when you go in for your hair cut appointment. They will be able to provide you with recommendations and may also have some fantastic products in the salon that would be perfect for you.
