A bridesmaid gift fit for the royals

What do you get the little flower girl or bridesmaid who has everything? No doubt Pippa Middleton was thinking the very same thing after choosing Princess Charlotte to complete the line-up at the biggest wedding of the year.

But Britain’s last remaining luxury teddy bear factory, Merrythought, has the answer with a collection of adorable handmade companions which are just perfect for that enchanting gift. After all, baby brother Prince George already has one.

The Shropshire firm has unveiled a stunning new collection which features adorable new characters ready to charm owners across the globe, with Digby the dog and Coco the cat taking centre stage.

Digby’s expression has already won the hearts of Merrythought’s staff and is carefully crafted from sandy-gold and multi-tonal grey mohair. He features adorable lop-sided ears, along with a little upturned tail.

Henley is a stylish new addition to the family with its super soft, rich, cream mohair, while the popular Oxford bear has a striking new look in rich, copper-gold mohair. What’s more, each can be personalised to create that truly special gift/keepsake.

A bunny, fox, panda and monkey complete the charming menagerie of animals which will appeal to children and adult bridesmaids alike.

“One of our key aims is to craft a companion for life, giving children comfort as they grow up and sparking imagination in play,“ said Merrythought owner Sarah Holmes, great granddaughter of the founder.

“The  teddy bear remains a gift that people love to give, and as we can personalise them too, they’re becoming ever more sought after for special occasions.”

Merrythought already has partnerships with some of the leading lights in luxury, making exclusive teddy bears for brands such as Harrods, Fortnum and Mason and Highgrove.

Its classic English teddy bears are handmade by a skilled team at the same factory in which the business started, back in 1930. It is a meticulous 15-stage process which uses the finest natural materials, making a Merrythought bear not only hugely collectible but something to cherish for a lifetime.
