Make the next moment in history yours at Cardigan Castle

Couples looking to create a personalised wedding in a historic venue can find inspiration for their big day at Cardigan Castle.

Surrounded by Medieval walls and spanning 900 years of history, Cardigan Castle offers a blend of the old and the new, having recently undergone a £13 million restoration.

Couples can hold their wedding ceremony in the Tower Rooms or in the Cardigan Castle’s on-site restaurant, followed by a drinks reception on the grass or in a pavilion.

Wedding parties can stay on site at the Castle’s five-star accommodation and can enjoy breakfast the following morning overlooking the River Teifi.Make the next moment in history yours at Cardigan Castle

Couples can also create bespoke wedding menus, from afternoon tea, a BBQ or a traditional Welsh feast, head chef Tom Holden will work with couples to tailor their menu to suit individual tastes.

One of the castle’s unique features is the original whalebone archway which stands in the castle grounds. Whalebone arches were a popular wedding gift in the Georgian period and this is the only one still standing in Wales.

Cardigan Castle has a colourful history, having once been home to King Edward I in 1284 and gifted to Katherine of Aragon as part of her dowry in 1501. Last year, the Castle won Channel 4’s coveted ‘Restoration of the Year’ award.

Jac Owen, Director at Cardigan Castle: "At Cardigan Castle, we don’t believe in set wedding menus or packages. We give couples the freedom to customise their day, without being confined to choosing between package A or B."

Michelle Betts and Phil Richards, who live in Adelaide, Australia, are getting married at Cardigan Castle in April 2019. The couple, who are originally from Make the next moment in history yours at Cardigan CastleCeredigion, wanted their wedding to be held in a place that was easily accessible for their family and friends, so decided to return to where they grew up.

Michelle said: “We wanted a venue that would be visually stunning but more importantly to match our personalities – somewhere relaxed but within beautiful surroundings. Cardigan Castle has an interesting history and the gardens offer a beautiful backdrop which will complement the atmosphere we wanted to create. Most of our guests will be staying over at the accommodation which is conveniently on the grounds and we love the fact our family and friends can enjoy the day and still stay together at the end of the day’s events.
