saving money

Getting engaged feels like a whirlwind of excitement – but planning a wedding can in some cases make the heart flutter in a bad way. This is particularly true if you don’t start with the practicalities and tackle budgeting early.

To remove some of the stress and to help keep things as simple as possible, Simon Ripton of Ikano Bank offers his top tips on how to budget for a wedding:

Set expectations

Before creating a budget take time to research the cost of everything you think you want for your big day. This will help paint a picture of an overall budget. By working through a simple checklist of the necessities, plus any extras you want, you’ll be able to total up costs to form a realistic target.

Wedding Stationery Check List

Wedding Stationery

Your stationery sets the mood and tone for your wedding… from its inception, it gives your guests a glimpse into what your day might look and feel like.  No pressure though!

As a wedding tasker, I design a lot of bespoke stationery for my clients.  They give me a brief and send me things they like from Pinterest and I design them something unique and personal to suit their budget.  We go through various designs, sometimes more than 20, and various processes to ensure they have something they are thrilled with by the end.  Time and time again… the design my clients always end up going back to is the simplest one (and usually the first one!), but the key is personalisation.  Your day should be entirely reflective of you and your other half.

Richard Ward’s Top Tips: Summer Bridal Hair

How to choose a hairstyle for a summer wedding:

• Wedding hair can be notoriously hard to decide on – it has to work with your dress, accessories, face shape and make you feel totally comfortable at the same time. Take into account the dress neckline and go for a hairstyle that complements it; for example, if you have a detailed, high neckline, an updo or keeping hair behind the shoulders will ensure it’s visible. Try out as many styles as possible with your hairdresser until you find your perfect look.

• Loose, undone braids and romantic updos are a popular choice for summer brides; they look beautiful, keep the hair off your face and neck, and can be let down in the evening for gorgeous waves and movement.

PREP:

1. Make sure you get a good night’s sleep! No matter how good your makeup artist is, they won’t be able to get rid of bags under your eyes.

2. If you plan on having a spray tan for your wedding day, trial that a day or two before your trial too. The tone of your skin will impact the colours your artist will use on your eyes, lips and cheeks.

3. Wear white! Just as your skin tone effects the way colour sits with your hair and eyes, as does the colour you are wearing. You will get a much more accurate idea of what your makeup will look like on the actual day if you wear the same colour as your dress to the trial.
