Pre Wedding ‘I dos’ and definitely ‘do nots’...

ESPA founder Sue Harmsworth reveals her secrets to Vows and Weddings about Pre Wedding 'I dos' and definitely 'do nots'

DO sleep well

“Blue light makes us think we are still in daylight so keep tablets and smartphones out of the bedroom. Not only that but get rid of the television and electric alarm clock too. I really think it makes a huge difference. It’s like putting babies to bed, you have to do the wind down and if you go to bed on high alert, if your brain isn’t going into that regenerative restful phase, you won’t sleep.

Pre weddingSo two hours before bed - no emails, no technology, no exercise and no stimulants.

There are other things you can do too such as setting a suitable room temperature and using natural fibre sheets.

I always say just do the things you can.

If you’ve still got problems on your mind then write them down because that will help to let them go. As much as you can, get clarity and calm at night, don’t dwell.

You owe it to yourself to sort out any sleep issues because they will always catch up with you.”

DO NOT introduce a new skincare regime too close to your wedding

“The big mistake everybody makes is going to have a facial or a major treatment and then having a reaction because they are stressed. I would say start any new treatments at least six months out and if you can afford it, go once a month, do a day spa, or indulge in our bridal treatment. It will help with stress levels as well as the texture of the skin.

The great thing about our treatments is that they are complete, they work for the whole body.”

DO drink lots of water

“Cut down on alcohol too and eat clean and eat well. Never under eat. You need your energy. Lots of people diet themselves silly to get into their dress, then on the day they are not in good vitality.

Make sure you have a high nutrient value diet for at least six months before your wedding.”

DO NOT make it all about you

“I think it’s important to have some ‘me’ time but you can also enjoy a spa or a treatment with your husband-to-be and unwind together. Fifty per cent of our market is men.”

DO practice positive thinking

“Positive thinking to my mind governs everything I do and I’m a huge believer in mind over matter.

We’ve spent the last 10 years looking after our bodies, were going to spend the next 10 years looking after our minds. I think positive mental attitude gets you through. Everybody has trauma, everybody has stress and everybody has negative things in their life. I have had my fair share but I think if you wake up every day and be grateful for what you’ve got and you can teach yourself to have that attitude, it will stand you in good stead!”
