What’s the difference between microblading and traditional permanent brow treatments?
Both methods give the client beautiful eyebrows with the use pigments rather than ink but the method of applying the pigment is what differs Microblading and traditional permanent brow treatment, and the final finished treatment also differ in several ways.
Microblading is a technique which involves using a small, hand-held tool which is actually made up of very fine needles configured to deposit the pigment into the dermal layer. As part of our K.B Pro treatment we have launched our own patent pending Microblading tool which is like no other hand tool available in the industry and available exclusively for K.B Pro. The tool features a removable depth guard for safer, easier and faster treatment, sharper needles which deliver the finest stroke lines. The micro needles implant pigment (in a colour tailored to suit you) to the brow in a “featherlike” hair stroke technique which mimics the growth of natural hair and results in natural, flawless looking brows.
Traditional permanent brow treatments use a specialist facial tattooing machine, which gently applies pigment to the skin using very fine needles. The machine works at a much lower frequency that a standard tattoo machine and gives the sensation of an electric toothbrush being held against the skin. In comparison to Microblading, eyebrows created with a machine have minutely thicker hairstrokes.
Does the procedure hurt?
No. There’s a tiny amount of discomfort but it wouldn’t be regarded as pain, rather the feeling of small little surface scratches. A topical anaesthetic cream can be applied to numb the area.
What sort of aftercare would you recommend?
Aftercare advice is given on an individual basis after each treatment, but we produce our own soothing balm which we give to our clients to apply post treatment to assist with the healing. Before treatment we always carry out strict patch tests a minimum of 48hrs before treatment.
Who would you recommend gets the treatment?
Anyone! From those who don’t want to fill in, shape and tint their brows every day, the physically active who don't want to sweat off their makeup, to the visually or motor impaired who have trouble with makeup application and those who have hair loss such as alopecia, thinning hair or over-plucked eyebrows. A diverse group of people can use and have K.B Pro Brows, it really has no limitations. So many different people can benefit from this procedure as K.B Pro Brows are tailor-made to suit the individual. Although we do not tattoo fashion brows, sometimes a stronger look is more suitable for someone who wears lots of makeup all the time. Likewise, someone who never wears makeup would be more suited to a natural hair stroke brow.
Can it go wrong?
In the hands of a well trained and certified technician there should be no risk. Be sure to patch test your client, conduct a thorough consultation discussing shape, colour and expectations and take your client through the appropriate aftercare. Micro blading is not a technique you can master in one day and Karen recommends that a client does their research, checks training credentials, views the artists portfolio and not be afraid to verify that the work is that of the artists and not courtesy of the company they have trained with.
Why is the right brow shape is so important?
“The correct brow design, with the right arch and curvature for your face shape, can accentuate your best features and open up your entire eye area, therefore enhancing the whole face. Every face shape is unique and this determines which brow design works best for you. Whether you’ve over plucked, or suffer from hair loss, once I have designed the brows my ‘K.B PRO’ technique promises fantastic results, giving natural, beautiful brows customised for you.”
Does having the right brow shape make the face look younger/slimmer/more defined?
It completely depends on your natural face shape;
- Square jawlines as seen on Natalie Portman, Olivia Wilde and Angelina Jolie accent and define the angularity of the face, so your brows really need to compliment this. Soft, curved arches are the way to go and will define the cheekbones and temple area. However, beware of going too high with the arches – a softer, flatter style balances out the hard lines that frame a square face.
- If your face is round like Kate Upton, Jennifer Lawrence or Selena Gomez you want to make sure you keep brows shorter and quite angular with a high arch. The angular shape gives height and length to the face, and gives the illusion of a bone structure which isn’t usually present in round faces. The strong, high arch will help to add definition. Avoid accentuating the width of the face by keeping brows slightly shorter – this will add balance to a round face shape.
- It’s really important to add extended length to the tails of your brows if you have a long face. By opting for a flatter brow with extended length it will soften facial features and add width to your natural face shape. Never extend the tails too far downwards as this will make the eyes look droopy – aim to extend them outwards towards the temples to give a youthful lift.
- Oval faces are well proportioned allowing them to be the perfect shape for any brow design, but I’d recommend sticking to a classic, bold brow.
